When Is It Too Soon To Talk About Safety?...Answer Never

In today's day and age of super technologies and lack of respect for human life it can never be to soon to talk to our greatest natural resources our children about safety. Our children's best defense is our offense against the people that prey upon the children of America, is the knowledge that we provide to them. Our children must understand that they are in danger at all times, that anyone can be a threat to them at anytime or anywhere. The only way to keep them safe is to...beware of STRANGER DANGER, PLAN AHEAD,AND HAVE GOOD INFORMATION.

Of course, the best protection is prevention... every child needs be to taught about STRANGER DANGER and the techniques to deal with them. As parents we should make sure that children know who strangers are and the tricks that they will play to get what they want. Not only tell them the dangers but also explain them. Children may not understand that something as innocent as talking, helping look for a lost puppy, taking a ride or a piece of candy from a stranger or even a person that they know can be dangerous, and should never be done. Make them understand that any information that an adult needs they should get from an adult...there is never any question that a child should answer. Teach children that it is ok to say no and to scream if they feel they are being threatened. Teach them it is never ok for someone to follow them anywhere.

There should always be a PLAN in place for your family in case of emergency but to also help to prevent the unspeakable. You should develop a secret code word or phrase that you and your children know, this word or phrase should be used only if you are sending someone to pick up your child, the child should ask for the code word or phrase if a stranger approaches and states that they are there to pick them up at your request. Make sure that your child knows what to do if they are ever lost in public. Assure them that they can ask a store employee for help, but never leave the store with anyone other than a policeman or the adult that they came to the store with. The best way to insure that your child doesn't go missing is to know where they are every minute, of every hour of the day. This should include that they ask for your permission from you to go anywhere before they go and to make sure that they let you know if they go somewhere else instead. Encourage your child to never go anywhere alone that is always safer to go in pairs. They should never feel that they couldn’t come to you and express that they are scared. There are several things that you can do to help insure their safety...make sure that you are monitoring their activities on the internet to insure that they are not giving out any kind of personal information and never place there name on clothing that they are wearing out. Remind them when they leave the house to always walk on the sidewalks and in well-lit and traveled areas. Knowing that we live in a rat race in today's society, that security sometimes goes lacking, we as adults and parents need to insure that all doors and windows are locked at all times, garage doors are closed, and there are no hidden keys to be found by predators.

With all of the preventive measures, this is not a perfect world and the unspeakable can and does happen and for that you need to be prepared the very important information to share with law enforcement agencies. If you find that you are facing a parent's worst nightmare try to stay calm and report the disappearance to the law enforcement agency in your town as soon as posssible. The INFORMATION that you can provide to them will assist them in the most valuable way possible. The little things that parents tend to ignore will become very important. Make sure that you can give the police a detailed description of your child...including what they were wearing the last time you saw them, their mannerisms and any identifying marks. The best description you can give is a recent photographs or video and fingerprinting. Try to know your child's friends and their parents and the place that they might play. Be sure that your child knows their own personal information such as name, address, phone number, your name, phone number at work and cell phone. It is also a good idea that you child knows how and when to use 911 or operator assistance. If possible try to have a lock of your child's hair and medical and dental records on hand for DNA testing if needed.

We hope that your family never needs to use the information section of the page, but we feel that we needed to include that section as a preventative measure so that you could be more prepared to help your child. Remember that prevention is the best protection against the evils that lurk outside of our homes. Don't let your child become a victim of society. Let them know that danger does come in all shapes and sizes. Predators can be any sex, age, race or religion. Don't let them become comfortable with the idea that danger is only in the form of a stranger, make sure they understand that a person they know can hurt them too. Thank you for checking out this page and keep the children safe.
