Intending to use just the Internet and the phone, I went about buying my own home business two years ago. Since the business is doing so well, I have discovered that my small home office is not big enough to hold all the merchandise that I have to keep in stock. This is where my search for a rental office space began.
Living in a resort town, we also have three other small towns very close by with only a ten-mile drive. A larger city is just thirty-four miles away. I found a space in the nearest town. Even though it was quite affordable, it presented a problem with access since it was on the second story with only stairs as an entry. Since this would be too difficult for delivery people and clients, I decided it was not the best site. Searching in one of the other nearby towns, I found two more spaces for rent. The first was ideal in that it could be customized to my needs because it was in a brand new building. However, that newness and convenience was going to cost more than I had budgeted. The second rental space was adjacent to a convenience store with an entry located in an alleyway. This option was much more convenient for deliveries and clients although its main purpose would be for storing merchandise instead of having direct contact there. Deciding this would be the best site, I left my name and number for the owner when he/she returned from out of town.
As I drove home, I paid a visit to one of our neighbors and shared my plight of searching for more office space to store my inventory. She had a wonderful idea. The house next door was used as a vacation cabin and only had occupants a couple of times each month. She thought maybe I could use their garage for my storage since part of it had heat thanks to the owner before. This unused space would be perfect. After making the request of the owners, I was allowed to use the space for the price of the electricity. At a much more affordable rate, this storage space was even more convenient being close to home and having the access for deliveries that I needed.
